Dear
Members,
Lot of water has flown down the Kalindi; several trips
were made across Yamuna and one eventful year has passed.
Being president of an organization like IAP Delhi, is
an enriching experience of learning human values, sharing
thoughts, administration by consensus, animated discussion
and unity in divergence of opinions. Deliberations on
very thorny issues were always somber and mature. I think
that is the biggest strength of the DIAP. As pediatricians
we all owe to our children. President ship of DIAP was
an opportunity to work towards making ‘Delhi, a
Child Friendly City’. We made some progress to that
end. A lot remains to be done. I am sure the incoming
team of dedicated members will strive harder and work
with more zeal to achieve the target. I will always be
there to share the responsibility and to do any task given
to me by the future stalwarts of DIAP.
IAP Delhi is very strong in academics, launching child
welfare schemes and raising social issues. Govt. of Delhi,
Directorate of Family Welfare, organizes Immunization
Week in March every year. On our initiation the Govt.
of Delhi has agreed to observe Immunization Week jointly
with DIAP in future. Similarly D.O. letters have been
written to the government hospitals to make separate OPD
registration counters for child patients.
Several high quality international, national, zonal and
city conferences, workshops, symposia and seminars were
organized in collaboration with IAP Specialty chapters
and institutions with outstanding success. Our branch
was always in the fore front of observing all IAP days
and weeks with vigor. You will be happy to know that your
branch organized all scientific meetings under IAP Action
Plan in time. Childhood HIV/AIDS is a very serious matter.
Since HIV infection is transmitted to almost all children
from their mothers, infant feeding is drawing world wide
attention. DIAP held five zonal meetings on HIV and Infant
Feeding with financial support from Breast feeding Promotion
Network of India. The program was an instant success.
The year long spectacular show of DIAP was possible only
because of you and your Secretary. You all deserve a big
Thank You. The short comings were mine. Please forgive
me for that. Friends, I am very satisfied with myself
that I am handing over reigns of this great organization
to my worthy successors in one cohesive piece. I see many
challenges ahead but a very bright future for DIAP.
Wishing you and your family a very prosperous New Year
2007.
Dr M.M.A.Faridi |
